Hampton Owner Resources
A destination trailer lives a different life than a travel trailer — it sits in one place, hooked to utilities, often through a full range of seasons. Here are the basics worth knowing as a Hampton owner. Always defer to your unit’s owner manual for model-specific guidance.
Setup and placement
Because the Hampton is meant to be towed once and left, getting the placement right the first time matters. You’ll want a long, level pad sized for a 40-plus-foot unit, with room to extend slides and awnings. Leveling and stabilizing thoroughly at setup pays off over a long stay — a well-leveled unit puts less stress on the frame, doors, and slides.
50-amp power and utilities
The Hampton runs on 50-amp service and carries dual LP tanks. Confirm your site or pedestal actually provides 50-amp service before you arrive — a 30-amp or household connection won’t run the unit properly. Treat your water, sewer, and electrical hookups as semi-permanent: use quality hoses and cords rated for continuous use, and protect connections from weather and wear.
Winterizing
If your unit sits through freezing weather, winterizing the plumbing is essential. The general approach is to drain the fresh, gray, and black systems, then either blow out the lines or run RV antifreeze through them so nothing freezes and cracks. Don’t forget the water heater and any low points. If you’re a snowbird leaving the unit in a warm climate, this matters less — but anyone in a freeze zone should treat it as non-negotiable.
Maintenance basics
- Roof and seals. Inspect the fiberglass roof and all seams and seals periodically. Catching a failing seal early prevents water intrusion, the most expensive problem an RV can have.
- Gutters and underbelly. The full-length rain gutters and enclosed underbelly help, but keep gutters clear and check the underbelly for damage or pests.
- Slides and awnings. Keep slide seals clean and lubricated per the manual; retract awnings in wind.
- Appliances and LP. Service residential-style appliances as you would at home; have LP connections checked for leaks.
Warranty mindset
Keep your paperwork, register your unit, and document your maintenance. Warranties reward owners who follow recommended care and report issues promptly. If something needs attention, address it early rather than letting it compound. Motor Sportsland can point you toward the right resources for your Hampton.
